Louga, Apr 11 (APS) – The Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye Hospital in Louga is willing to take “corrective measures” and “respond to justice”, if necessary, to answer the negligence charges it makes the object following the death of a patient in childbirth in its services, indicated, Monday, its director, Amadou Guèye Diouf.
Astou Sokhna, who reached the end of her pregnancy, was admitted to the maternity ward of the Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye hospital in Louga on March 31. She died there in childbirth several hours following her arrival.
His family is questioning the maternity ward of the hospital and accusing it of negligence having led to the death of the victim whose mother has announced her intention to take legal action once morest the health establishment.
“We have heard that a decision to file a complaint would have been taken by the family. This keeps us in a waiting posture: that justice can start the appropriate procedure and we will respect any decision taken by the family in this direction. ”, said Amadou Guèye Diouf.
“Senegal is a State of law and no one is above the law”, he said during a press briefing, assuring that the Amadou-Sakhir-Mbaye hospital “is ready to respond if eventually this referral to justice is confirmed”.
According to him, the maternity teams “did their duty in this situation by auditing the death, and at no time did it emerge that an emergency situation had been indicated, contrary to what appeared in the press”.
The fact remains, however, that given medical secrecy, the hospital “does not have the right to publicly display the medical elements concerning the victim even if he is no longer of this world”, he added.
He also regretted the information conveyed by certain media on this affair without having first collected the version of the Amadou Sakhir Mbaye hospital.
“We have heard a certain amount of information relayed, while most of those who say it have not yet taken the attachment of the hospital to know our version, and we regret that”, he said. said.
Deeming this case “very important”, he indicated that his hospital has already made the necessary arrangements in terms of administrative procedures, in particular vis-à-vis his guardianship.
“We have no intention of dodging anything. Rather, we have a duty to give a clear position to the structure,” he insisted, before sending his condolences to the bereaved family.
“We accept the divine will, but that does not absolve us of the need to understand and take corrective measures, if there are shortcomings on the part of the hospital. We affirm it in a very strong way”, has he asserted, speaking of a “regrettable situation”.
