Sadness has been spread by the news of the death of 13-year-old Dorothea, from Halkidiki, who was struck by lightning at Poseidi beach, where she had gone for a swim with her parents.
A few days before the tragic incident, the 13-year-old wrote a letter to her teacher, wishing her a good summer.
The letter, presented by MEGA, states that, “Dear Madam,
You are one of my favorite teachers. Although I don’t like History class at all, this year was the first year I found it interesting. I wish all teachers were like you.
“The accident was caused by a metal bead in the swimsuit”
According to MEGA, the accident was caused by a metal bead in the girl’s swimsuit. At the same time, Dorothea’s uncle, speaking to the same station, said that, “the day was sunny and my brother and my daughter-in-law and the child decided to go for a swim. Suddenly it started to rain heavily.
My brother took his wife and the little girl and they immediately got out of the sea and headed for the car. The beach is not accessible by foot and it takes about ten minutes of walking to reach the road. During the walk to the car lightning struck my niece. The shock wave also knocked down my daughter-in-law, who fortunately was not injured. Although rescuers quickly arrived at the scene, the child did not recover.”
“The medical examiner told us that the accident was caused by a metal bead the size of a button that was in the child’s bathing suit. It is very difficult for me to talk about it. My brother and my daughter-in-law have no responsibility to me. They did exactly the right thing. They came straight out of the sea as soon as the weather broke and moved towards the car. It is not the case that they were swimming when lightning struck,” he added.
Tomorrow, Tuesday (2/7), the funeral of the 13-year-old child will be held in an atmosphere of sorrow.
