Catherine (Ciss) O’Brien, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, left this world peacefully on Febuary 1st, 2025, at Bantry General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.Her warm heart and infectious laughter touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Timothy (Ted), and their cherished children: June (O’Regan), Joe, and Terry. Catherine was lovingly known as “amazing nanny” and “great nanny” to a large and adoring extended family.
Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved her, including her son-in-law Timjoe, daughters-in-law Anne and Bernie, and also numerous brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbors, and friends.
A party of Catherine’s life will be held at Shanahan’s Funeral Home in Leap on Sunday, February 2nd, from 4 pm to 6 pm. The funeral cortege will depart for st. Barrahane’s Church in Castlehaven at 1:45 pm on Monday, February 3rd, with a Requiem Mass beginning at 2:30 pm. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Catherine’s memory to the Palliative care Unit at bantry General Hospital, a testament to her belief in compassionate care.
