On Sunday, Algerian director Amina Bachir Chouikh died, following a long struggle with illness, according to what was announced by the “Adwaa” cinema association.
The association wrote on Facebook: “With great sadness and sorrow, the Cinematographic Society received the light of the news of the death of director and scriptwriter Amina Bachir Chouikh,” who became famous especially for the movie “Rachida” in 2002, which depicted “terrorist violence” once morest women in Algeria.
The body of the late director was buried in the Al-Alia cemetery, in the eastern suburb of the Algerian capital.
Rachida, who was one of the first artworks on the “Black Decade” (1992-2002), won several awards at festivals, including the Marrakesh Festival in Morocco. Most of the films of her husband, director Mohamed Chouikh, and films of director Merzak Allwash.
