The Republican faction in the US House of Representatives mourns the loss of one of its members: Jackie Walorski died in a car accident, along with two of her close associates. She was admired for her “personal kindness,” writes Nancy Pelosi.
A Republican US Congresswoman and two of her associates have died in a car accident. Jackie Walorski, 58, was driving her vehicle in her home state of Indiana on Wednesday, police said. Also in the car were her communications director, 28, and district director, 27.
The accident happened when a woman lost control of her vehicle in the opposite lane. She drove head-on into Walorski’s car. Everyone involved died. House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy shared a message from Walorski’s office on Twitter. “She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” it said. Her husband was informed of the death by the police in the followingnoon.
“She passionately brought the voices of her northern Indiana constituents to Congress and was admired by peers on both sides of the aisle for her personal kindness,” responded Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She ordered the US Capitol flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of Walorski.
Walorski, who used to work in journalism and science, was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2012 and represented conservative Christian views. She was the senior Republican member on the Ethics Committee. She was previously a member of the Indiana state legislature. Walorski voted to contest the presidential election result in January 2021 following violent supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed Congress.
