The third film about Deadpool shows that the creators of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after 34 films are facing a crossroads:

Embrace this film’s freewheeling style. Or put the whole shit down.

But none of that will happen…

ACTIONKOMEDI. The second option is of course not conceivable for Marvel Studios, which is now part of the Disney group. It’s about insanely big money, even if several superhero movies they’ve produced in recent years have flopped and run at a loss.

Not the first either. The children-approved films in the US have drawn in so many steals that the children-prohibited “Deadpool” films should rather be the children-prohibited exceptions (17 years in the USA, 15 in Sweden). They give credence.

I’m not one of those people who cares that much about superheroes from the comic book world whether they come from Marvel or DC Comics. Rather watch movies about real people. But the first two “Deadpool” films (2016, 2018) are absolutely among the best in the genre. After all, it’s been a long time since there was any excitement in the stories of superheroes in leotards fighting and throwing each other back and forth, so they should have died the first time.

For my part, I would rather see that Henrik Dorsin gets to make a film of “Lilla Fridolf” with himself in the lead role.

But now it is this film that is relevant. Just like in the previous Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) a superhero on the fringes of the X-Men world. Cynically, humorously and ironically, he spouts comments about the comic book world depicted in the film. But here even more than before. Heroes from other MCU movies make an appearance. There are jokes about directors, Disney, Marvel executives, “Avengers” movies and more when Reynolds periodically turns to the cinema audience. Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and he periodically collides in fights, against each other and with each other against other enemies. Like, for example, people who took from the Mad Max movies.

Emma Corrin as the villain Cassandra Nova is the only sensible female role. Using special effects, she does cool things with her fingers inside people’s faces. Otherwise, this is the boys’ film.

Matthew Macfaydenfrom the TV series “Succession”, is really the only one who plays his role seriously, as an agent of the TVA (Time Variance Authority) who wants to control the time and lives of the superheroes.

Otherwise, everything is done with an ironic twinkle in the eye. It’s a meta film at best really is about himself. Extremely professionally done. Sometimes a bit boring.

To me, it feels like the humor in it somehow effectively kills this type of movie. The fans probably think otherwise.

The film is shown in cinemas.
