(AFP, The Hague, 26th) The Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Autonomous Government said today that Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip is a “war of revenge” and called for a ceasefire. The Ministry of Health in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip also said today that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has reached 7,028.
On the occasion of the visit of Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki to The Hague, the Netherlands, Israel said it sent infantry and combat vehicles at night to launch an attack on the Gaza Strip controlled by the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas. Attack, attack “many” targets.
According to Israeli officials, Hamas launched a raid on Israel on the 7th, killing at least 1,400 people, most of whom were civilians. Hamas is believed to be holding more than 200 hostages.
The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by Hamas, said that at least 7,028 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip. Among them were approximately 2,913 children and 1,709 women, which was the highest war death toll since Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza in 2005.
Maric said in The Hague: “The war launched by Israel this time is different. This time… it is a war of revenge. We need to end this unilateral aggression first, and we need to call for a ceasefire.”
“In order to provide humanitarian relief…a ceasefire is essential,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Palestinian General Mission in The Hague.
Maric flew to The Hague yesterday to meet with senior officials including Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (International Criminal Court). “The situation in Gaza is now extremely dangerous and requires immediate intervention by the (International Criminal Court),” he said.
Maric said that Palestine has submitted a second application to the International Court of Justice (International Court of Justice), the main judicial body of the United Nations, also located in The Hague.
The United Nations General Assembly has asked the International Court of Justice to issue an advisory opinion on the occupation of the Palestinian territories.
Palestine joined the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court in 2015. Since Israel is not a member of the International Criminal Court, it refuses to cooperate with the investigation and does not recognize its jurisdiction.
