KARACHI: 58 people were killed in suicide attacks on mosques in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces on Friday. Officials said the death toll is likely to rise. More than 100 people were injured in the attacks that happened hours apart.
The first fatal attack took place in the Madinah Mosque during the preparation for the Prophet’s Day procession in Mastang, Balochistan. 54 people died instantly. About 100 people were injured. The condition of 18 people is critical. Mustang ADSP was also killed in the attack. A curfew has been declared in the city.

Hours later, the second attack took place during Juma prayers at a mosque in the city of Hanku, near Peshawar. Four people have been confirmed dead. The number of injured is also unclear. 12 people were taken out from under the collapsed building and admitted to the hospital.
It is also reported that more than forty people were present in the church at the time of the explosion. The police stopped the vehicle that came to the church with two chavares. Five terrorists also entered the Daoba police station in the area. One person was killed in police firing. Another ran onto the roof of the church and blew himself up. Three people survived. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. This is the second major attack in Mastang in fifteen days. Security has been heightened across the country following the attacks.
