A shooter opened fire at a California bar on Wednesday, killing three people and wounding several others, local police said, adding the suspect was deceased.
“We confirm that four people died at the scene, including the shooter. Six were transported to the hospital, including five with gunshot wounds,” said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on X (ex-Twitter). “Shooting involving a police officer occurred during the incident,” the police said, adding that none of their members had been injured.
The shooter, a retired police officer, was targeting his estranged wife, according to unnamed sources cited by the Los Angeles Times newspaper. The Cook’s Corner bar in south Los Angeles, where the shootings took place, is a well-known meeting point for local bikers.
The United States pays a very heavy price for the spread of firearms in its territory and the ease with which Americans have access to them.
