A man was found dead inside a tiger enclosure at a zoo in Bahawalpur, Pakistan’s Punjab province.

According to CBS News on the 6th (local time), Zahir Anwar, a senior government official, told the media, “Employees who were cleaning the zoo and den saw (the tiger) with a shoe in its mouth,” and “Afterwards, they looked inside the cage. “A body was found,” he said.

“Our assessment so far is that this looks crazy,” he said. “No sensible person would have jumped into the hole.” He added, “There are stairs at the back of the cave, and he may have jumped from there.”

A rescue worker who responded to the scene explained to AFP, “The victim’s leg was severely damaged. It is not known who he was or how he got there. The body looked like it was several hours old.”

The man appears to have been attacked by four tigers in the cage. The zoo considers the deceased man to be an outsider, saying there are no vacancies among his employees.

The zoo is operated by the Punjab Wildlife Conservation Department, and the admission fee is 18 cents (regarding 2,400 won) for adults. “Lions, tigers, hyenas and more are housed in modern enclosures,” the website says.
