The complete identification of the ten victims who died in the fire of a building in Vaulx-en-Velin on the night of Thursday to Friday December 16 revealed that they were six adults and four children, a-t -we learned on Sunday from the Lyon prosecutor’s office.

A previous toll reported five minors among the ten dead. Twenty-four people were also injured in the fire, four of them seriously. “We confirm that we count among the ten deceased victims four children and six adults”, said Sunday morning the prosecution, questioned by AFP.

The latter added that no arrests had taken place since the opening of the investigation for “deliberate damage by fire resulting in death”. “The investigation is actively continuing”, he concluded.

Saturday evening, the Lyon public prosecutor’s office had announced, in a press release, the identification of all the deceased victims, without further details. He had indicated that the expertise had still not allowed “to determine if the origin of the fire (was) voluntary or accidental”.

“No trace of flammable product was detected in the samples taken from the scene of the incident”, he had clarified once more.

Saturday followingnoon, around 600 people had gathered on the forecourt of the Town Hall of Vaulx-en-Velin, to pay tribute to the victims.

The mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, Hélène Geoffroy, welcomed “the immense chain of solidarity”with many donations, in favor of the survivors, who “gives comfort and support”.

“This followingnoon (Saturday) we mourn our dead and we are here to bring comfort and support to the living,” she said, before the crowd observed several minutes of silence.

Among the other personalities present were the regional prefect Pascal Mailhos, the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet, the president of the Metropolis of Lyon Bruno Bernard or the rector of the Academy of Lyon Olivier Dugrip.
