The 61-year-old Lowe was located by Los Angeles County authorities near a popular hiking trail, near Stoddard Canyon Falls. He suffered injuries to his upper body and neck, and authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The coroner’s office confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the neck.
According to the New York Post, a man who fled the scene in a car and crashed nearby has been identified as the victim’s son, Emir Lowe. The 19-year-old was arrested by the authorities and is accused of murdering his father.

Paul Lowe had a decades-long career as a journalist and was an award-winning war photographer. He covered major historical events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Bosnian War, the Romanian Revolution and the Siege of Sarajevo. He was also a professor at the University of the Arts in London and loved by his students.
His best-known photograph was a black-and-white image of a child with a ball from 1992, taken during the siege of Sarajevo. His work has been published in prestigious media such as Time, Newsweek, Sunday Times, The Observer and The Independent.
