Dead and injured in a series of earthquakes shaking Iran..no effect on the country

At least five people were killed and 19 injured following three earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 6 struck southern Iran at dawn on Saturday, according to a preliminary toll reported by the official Iranian news agency (IRNA).

For its part, the National Center of Meteorology said: “An earthquake measuring 6.3 degrees on the Richter scale struck southern Iran at 01:32 on the second of July, according to the local time of the UAE.”

The center explained in a statement that the earthquake was felt in different regions of the country and had no effect on the UAE.

And the agency stated that “three earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.1, 6.1 and 6.3 (on the Richter scale) struck areas of Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, at dawn today, Saturday.” The agency quoted the governor of Hormozgan, Mehdi Doosti, as saying that “strong earthquakes and dozens of seismic followingshocks have killed 5 people and injured 19 others so far in the villages of the Khmer port.”

He explained that “the majority of the damage occurred in the village of Sayeh Khoush, most of whose houses were destroyed by earthquakes.” The US Geological Survey had previously reported that an earthquake struck an area located 100 km southwest of the Bandar Abbas port.
