A burglar has been caught red-handed in the home of Hollywood star Robert De Niro in New York. The 30-year-old was arrested Monday morning at De Niro’s home in Manhattan’s exclusive Upper East Side, police said. According to the TV station ABC News she was about to pack presents lying under the Christmas tree into her bag.
The transmitter NBC News reported that De Niro heard the noise in his living room and came down the stairs in his bathrobe. The burglar was known to the police because of multiple break-ins and previous arrests, said a spokesman for the news agency AFP. “The woman was (…) taken into custody, the charges are still pending. The investigations are ongoing,” it said.
Born and raised in Manhattan, 79, De Niro is considered one of America’s greatest actors and has won two Oscars – for portraying boxing champion Jake LaMotta in ‘Raging Bull’ (1980) and for best supporting actor in The Mafia -Movie “The Godfather – Part II”.
