De Lijn Bus Network Reform: Impact on Brussels and Flanders

2023-11-26 12:33:00

From January 6, 2024, De Lijn is launching its major reform of the bus network. What impact for the capital, where Flanders operates numerous transregional lines?

In Brussels itself, little change. “In the Brussels-Capital Region, the routes remain unchanged, so it is only the offer that becomes simpler, more readable and more reliable,” assures the Flemish public transport company.

Timetables and frequency will be reviewed depending on the lines. Big news to highlight from next January: the change in the name of the lines. All vehicles circulating in Brussels will have the letter R. A concern for readability, indicates De Lijn. For example, line 230 Brussels North – Grimbergen will become line R30. The 170 between Brussels-Midi and Halle will take the name R70. Lines 140, 141 and 142 will be merged to form the R42, linking the capital to Leerbeek via Lennik.

A Brussels bus is creating buzz on social networks: “It takes you to a mysterious place.”

Once you have crossed the Flemish border, however, the routes will vary more. Certain lines will be better served, such as between Brussels and the Druivenstreek (Overijse, Huldenberg, Hoeilaart en Tervuren), note our colleagues from Ring TV. Conversely, other lines will lose appeal. Like the connections to Rhode-Saint-Genèse and Linkebeek during the weekend.

Precise route information can be found on le site de De Lijn.
