De la Fuente, on Brahim’s election for Morocco: “He is free to make the decisions he makes” | Soccer | Sports

Luis de la Fuente, Spanish coach, acknowledged this Monday that he has not spoken to Brahim Díaz to inform him if he was going to be called up for Spain, and recalled that he is the coach who has counted on him the most in his career and shown respect to his decision to play with Morocco. “He is free to make the decisions he makes,” stressed De la Fuente, protagonist today at the EFE Sport Business Days Forum at the UAX headquarters at the Alfonso X El Sabio University, where he responded to the decision of Brahim, international in the lower categories of the Spanish team, which debuted with the senior team in a friendly match, to accept the proposal of the Moroccan Federation to play with Morocco.

“I respect their position, everyone is free to make decisions, but there are three maxims when it comes to being selected: one, that they can play for the national team; two, that he wants to do it, and three, that the coach selects him,” De la Fuente explained. “The most important thing, without demands or obligations, in equal rights. At that starting point you will always find me. If it is not from that starting point, you will always have me in front of you,” he remarked.

De la Fuente acknowledged that he has not called up Brahim, a habit he has with injured players, but not with those he is going to call up, and he wished him the best if his decision is to resign from the Spanish team to play for Morocco. “I have not spoken with him if he is called up or not, and people do what they think they have to do. Brahim has been with me more than with any coach, I have an appreciation and demonstrated value for him. I wish him the best, but each one is free to make the decisions he makes with the most absolute respect.”
