Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed on Thursday that Frenkie de Jong is one of their most valuable players and the club had never considered selling him.
Strong speculation linked the 25-year-old Dutch midfielder to the possibility of moving to Manchester United, which is coached by Dutchman Eric ten Hag.
Laporta told Barcelona TV: He is one of the main pillars of the team. He is one of the best young talents and we have signed him as one of the captains of the team. I never wanted to sell my Frenkie.
De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax Amsterdam in 2019 in a deal amounting to approximately 85 million euros.
And Spanish media reported that Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets, who spent 15 seasons with the club and helped him achieve 33 major titles, may join Inter Miami in the American League in the next transfer window.
Laporta added: I don’t know if he will leave this winter or will continue until the end of the season. We want it to continue. Xavi depends on Sergio.
