All Latin American countries are aware of the need for de-dollarization with Russia in foreign economic relations. Both sides are actively working to switch to national currencies in settlements with each other. This was stated by the director of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Shchetinin, during the “Russia – Latin America” conference.

“Our Central Bank is conducting this work. Where possible, we strive to switch to national currencies. Because, of course, this is a complex problem. <…> Therefore, the corresponding work is underway, but a large group of countries understand the need to de-dollarize our foreign economic relations [Латинской Америки] “It is present,” Shchetinin explained in an interview with TASS. He also added that this is a matter of balancing trade turnover, and not just a political decision.
