Motherhood is an experience that is not always as easy and joyful as it is shown on social media. For this reason, there are influencers like Dayana Rodríguez (Daya Modo Mamá) who seek to show all the experiences, from the most difficult to the most fun.
Rodriguez has been posting information regarding motherhood on her social media for six years, although the humorous content on her Instagram account @dayamodomama started in 2020.
“One day, a friend from school told me to open a humorous maternity account and I took her up on her word. I did it in the midst of postpartum depression,” she said in an interview for The newspaper.
I wanted to show the other side of motherhood
Rodríguez She said that she wanted to show on social media “the other side of motherhood” because she considered that she has her “tough days.”
“Motherhood can be very pretty, like the rainbow, but it also has its rainy, black and grey days where you want to open a closet and go to Narnia,” she added.
Daya Modo Mamá said that she started posting while she was dealing with postpartum depression and when she felt better, she took up this project once more because she wanted to help other mothers.
“My goal was to accompany other mothers in these processes of motherhood, dealing with the issues of guilt, fear and what others will say,” she added.
Humorous posts regarding personal experiences
The influencer clarified that her posts are based on her personal experiences as madre.
“They are not made up. It often happens to me that people think it is a character and when they meet me they say: ‘Oh no, that’s just you in real life.’ Everything that happens in Daya Modo Mamá is based on real events,” she said, laughing.
She also insisted that her intention in showing her personal experiences is to help other mothers identify with them.
“In the end, I am a real and very authentic mother. The only thing I want and seek with my page is to accompany other mothers, so that they can identify with it and see that what happens to them happens to all of us,” she added.
Social media interest in authentic motherhood
Despite the goals she had set for her account, Dayana Rodríguez was surprised by the impact it had.
“When I started out as a content creator, I never imagined the reach I would have and the community I would create,” she confessed.
The influencer said that many mothers write to her privately and share their personal experiences.
“They tell me stories via DM (direct message), they send me photos of their children, of things that happened to them at school. It’s very nice because beyond creating a community of followers, I have many (users) there that I consider my friends,” she added.
Her plans for the future are to continue showing motherhood in this authentic way, from the happy days to the scary ones.
The importance of breaking taboos in motherhood
In addition to showing the difficult moments of motherhood, Dayana Rodríguez also wants to break the taboos that some mothers may experience.
As she has shared on her social media, the influencer recalled that her nine-month-old daughter Paulina has complex syndactyly of the left hand.
“When I told it on social media that was a boom. “I must have received more than 200 messages in my DM. At least, more than 100 were from people who knew someone with a birth defect and told me their stories,” she said.
Despite his need to speak openly regarding the issue, he said it was “very hard.”
“I don’t cry because my daughter has her hand like that, but because I’m afraid of her future and the society we live in. My purpose in life is for the world to have fewer taboos for mothers and our children,” she said.
Advice for first-time mothers
For first-time mothers, Daya Modo Mamá recommends following their instincts and not being guided by what works for other mothers, but rather by what works for them based on their own experiences.
“I feel that we have to bring out the best in all worlds and create our own motherhood,” she added.
A project that has also led her to do stand up comedy
Thanks to Daya Modo Mamá, its creator also started in the world of humor. The first stand up was Because of you, because of you in 2023, which took her through Valencia, Maracay, Maracaibo and Caracas. In 2024, she presented her new stand up I’ve been that mom too.
Rodriguez said he thought regarding starting out in comedy three years ago and was afraid that tickets wouldn’t be bought. However, his fears were put to rest when he took the plunge.
“In Valencia and Caracas it was sold out and in Maracay and Maracaibo almost. In the end it was incredible and the experience was wonderful,” he said.
According to Rodriguez, the name of the first stand-up was a humorous reference to the guilt of motherhood, while this year’s project refers to all types of mothers.
“We have all been through all kinds of mothers and I took the most iconic ones and decided to do this new stand-up with mothers represented through my stories,” she added.
In Caracas it was presented in June 2024 and was also sold out.She plans to perform in Maracay and Valencia in July and August. However, she also hopes to perform in other cities.
