GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Freshman Annie Dawson’s seventh-place finish led the Creighton Women’s Golf team to a third place showing at the Lady Bison Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., on Tuesday.
The Phoenix, Ariz.,. product was the first round leader following a 1-under 70 in Monday’s initial round before following that up with loops of 79 and 77. It’s the second strong performance in a row for the Bluejay rookie, as she had finished 13th at the Islander Classic.
Sophomore Annika Yturralde surged up the leaderboard during Tuesday’s final round, climbing from 21st to 13th following tournament scores of 77, 78 and 74 for a 229 aggregate.
Freshman Katharine Marshall shot rounds of 77 and 82 on Monday before a 74 that was her best round of the spring. That earned the Elburn, Ill., product a tie for 24th place.
Eleanor Hudepohl shook off a first round 83 before bouncing back with loops of 73 and 79 to tie for 26th place.
Rounding out the Bluejay line-up was freshman Abby Aeschleman, who followed an 81 with consecutive 85s for a 251 score that tied her for 55th place.
Playing as an individual and not factoring into the team scores was freshman Karsen Morrison, who opened with an 88 before back-to-back 78s, which tied her for 45th place.
Georgetown (300-284-289=873) won the team title by 23 shots over host institution Howard (294-294-308=896), just ahead of Creighton (305-312-304=921) for third. The Hoyas also had the top three finishers in the tournament in medalist Georgia Ruffolo (74-68-71=213), Morgan Smith (73-70-73=216) and Megan Gormley (74-75-70=219). The event featured 12 teams and 76 players that competed on the Par 71 Hawkstone Country Club course that measured 5,990 yards.
Creighton returns to the course on Saturday and Sunday at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.
