Tomorrow, January 17, the World Economic Forum in Davos opens in Switzerland. The great economic and political leaders of the planet will meet there to discuss the state of the world and make recommendations with a view to improving the international situation. The Forum, which opens on Tuesday, will end on January 20, 2023. The Forum expects no less than 3,000 participants from various backgrounds (politics, economy and civil society) under the theme “Collaboration in a fragmented world”.
As at each Forum, security measures have been taken to prevent excesses from anti-capitalist demonstrators, threats of attacks, etc.
On the eve of this major meeting, the NGO Oxfam unveiled the content of its report entitled “la law of the richest” in which ; it denounces the accentuation of inequalities in the world. these findings are as follows on the evolution of inequalities:
- The ultra-rich have captured half of the new wealth over the past ten years and have now surpassed that figure.
- The fortunes of billionaires are growing by $2.7 billion a day even as the salaries of 1.7 billion people are not keeping pace with inflation.
- A tax of up to 5% on multi-millionaires and billionaires around the world might bring in $1.7 trillion a year, enough money to lift 2 billion people out of poverty.”FW
