Davis Cup: Pakistan will host Indian tennis team for the first time in 60 years

For the first time in six decades, Pakistan will host arch-rivals India in the first Davis Cup tennis match on its soil.

The two teams will compete in the Group One play-off match at the grass courts of the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

Two doubles and two singles matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday, with Monday set aside as a reserve day in case of rain.

However, it is yet to be decided whether spectators will be allowed to watch the match due to security concerns.

Pakistan’s tennis star Easam-ul-Haq Qureshi has told the French news agency AFP in this regard that “hopefully this competition will serve as a bridge between Pakistan and India and I will bring the Indian cricket team to our country in the near future.” I would love to see you play.’

Indian tennis team manager Sunil Yajman says that his team is looking forward to the competition.

“The whole team is very happy and excited to come to Pakistan,” he told AFP.

Both teams are well down in the world tennis pecking order, but Easimul Haq said he expects a nail-biting matchup.

He said that ‘three of their players are in the top 100 of the world doubles ranking, while the singles players are also expected to compete with Kante, especially on the grass court.’

According to him: ‘We will try our best to compete, and show our best ability on the court.’
