“Davina is out of surgery and according to the surgeon, the procedure went flawlessly—described as textbook. She is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) for recovery as a precaution; as you can imagine, she’s utterly exhausted after such a major operation. We deeply appreciate all the outpouring of love and support from everyone on here; it’s such powerful stuff, and we are immensely grateful,” read the heartfelt update shared by Mr. Douglas.
Mr. Douglas emphasized that his partner will be offline for a significant period as she recuperates from the surgery. “@davinamccall will be ‘off grid’ for a bit while she recovers from this brain operation. She is in great shape and under the care of excellent medical professionals,” he wrote to reassure her fans.
“I’ll occasionally post updates from her account here for those interested. I’m sure she’ll look through all the comments when she’s feeling well enough, so don’t hesitate to send her your love. The support from everyone has been incredibly powerful. Have a great day, everyone!”
In a candid video message, Ms. McCall revealed that the discovery of the tumour was a complete shock to her. She explained that after being offered a health scan related to a menopause talk she had conducted, the results unexpectedly indicated the presence of a brain tumour.
“I thought I was going to ace it [the test]. But it turned out I had a benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst, which is very rare—affecting only three in a million,” she detailed in the video, expressing her disbelief at the diagnosis.
Ms. McCall described the cyst as “big,” measuring 14mm wide, and urged, “It needs to come out, because if it grows it would be bad.” Her determination to rectify the situation was evident as she shared her journey.
“And so, I slightly put my head in the sand for a while, but eventually, I consulted numerous neurosurgeons. I gathered lots of opinions and came to the realization that I absolutely have to get it taken out,” she admitted candidly.
What is a benign brain tumour?
A benign (non-cancerous) brain tumour is a mass of cells that grows relatively slowly in the brain, posing its own challenges. While these tumours are unlikely to spread to other parts of the body, they can still be serious and potentially life-threatening. Non-cancerous tumours are more prevalent in individuals aged over 50.
Symptoms of such tumours can include severe headaches, blackouts, behavioral changes, and loss of consciousness.
