Leny Yoro’s move to Old Trafford appears to be in its final stages, with The Athletic’s David Ornstein reporting that the Frenchman is currently undergoing a medical ahead of signing a five-year contract with the option of a further year.
The 18-year-old decided on Tuesday that he wanted to join Manchester United. The transfer is expected to be worth a maximum of €70 million, including bonuses. The two clubs agreed on a €62 million deal last week. Yoro was still undecided regarding his future club at that point.
Yoro was initially keen to join Real Madrid, but the Royals have so far shown no willingness to pay the price Manchester United agreed to in negotiations with Lille. The Ligue 1 club clearly preferred Yoro to join Manchester, preferring to sell the Frenchman in the current transfer window rather than lose him for free next year.
Manchester United are still interested in options such as Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite, but the defender’s next move is dependent on outgoing transfers that would bring the club additional funds for further purchases.
Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in the Frenchman. Both clubs were aware that Yoro wanted to move to Madrid and it would be a one-horse race. Despite this, Manchester United took advantage of the fact that the door was still open and, unless something unexpected happens, he will be a player for the “Red Devils”.
