The President of the World Bank Group, David Malpass is announced from March 31 to 1is next April to Togo for an official visit during which he will meet the Head of State Faure Gnassingbé.

According to a press release from the financial institution, President Malpass will discuss strategic areas of intervention in the country with the Togolese leader as well as partners.

The document informs that the exchanges will focus on education, agriculture, in particular the emergency response to food insecurity in West Africa, digital development and social protection.

In Togo, David Malpass will also discuss efforts to build resilience and inclusive growth in Gulf of Guinea countries.

Before Togo, the President of the World Bank will be in Niger from March 29 to 31, where he will meet President Mohamed Bazoum as well as the main actors and partners of the World Bank Group, with whom he will discuss the development program of this Sahelian country and the support that the Bank Group provides to the country and more broadly to the Sahel region.

“Promoting security and peace in the region, strengthening education and building resilience to address the crippling climate costs are critical to the region’s growth and development. I look forward to these visits to Niger and Togo which will give us the opportunity to discuss these crucial topics as well as the additional support that the World Bank Group can provide in these areas,” said David Malpass. , President of the World Bank Group.

David Malpass will be accompanied during these visits by Ousmane Diagana, Vice President of the World Bank for West and Central Africa, and by Serge Pimenta, Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for Africa .

It should be noted that the World Bank Group is a long-standing partner of West and Central Africa. Between April 2020 and the end of its last fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, the financial institution committed an unprecedented total amount of $28.5 billion for 234 projects in priority sectors.

Over the past ten years, the Bank Group has more than quadrupled its resources in the Sahel and mobilized more than $8.5 billion between 2020 and 2023, making it the leading contributor to development in the region.

In Togo, the Bank’s current commitment represents 896 million dollars spread over 17 projects, including 9 national and 8 regional.
