David Goffin qualified for the final of the first edition of the BW Open. The Belgian N.1 lived up to his status but he had to work hard to overcome a Gauthier Onclin, catchy and bold. He won in two sets: 7-6, 6-2.
Goffin and Onclin know each other and have trained together this winter. But the youngest of the two Liégeois does not make a gift to the leader of Belgian tennis. The four forced break points in the first game set the tone. Goffin is doing well but he understood that nothing would be easy. David is racing in the lead. Gauthier hangs on. He takes every opportunity. With intensity and audacity, he pushes Goffin to the tie-break. Onclin commits a double fault at 3-3. The 50th player in the world rushes into the first breach opened by his opponent. He aligns the next three points and pockets the set (7-6).
