ALTLANDKREIS BAD BRÜCKENAU – On Friday, a couple fell victim to a well-known scam via WhatsApp. An unknown perpetrator posed as the couple’s daughter using a strange number and asked for a larger amount of money to be transferred, allegedly to urgently pay a lawyer.

In good faith that they were helping their child in need, the couple transferred the requested amount via real-time transfer. Only after the transfer did it emerge that the daughter had never asked for this money.

Die police warns urgently against this common scam, in which perpetrators steal large sums of money from relatives through fake emergency situations. The public is urged to be suspicious in such cases and to contact the alleged sender using the old, known number to check the authenticity of the message. The police also advise you to immediately block the sender of the fraudulent message and file a report if you have fallen victim to such an act.
