Datanalisis estimates electoral participation of 70%

The director of Datanálisis, José Antonio Gil Yepes, said that voting intentions in Venezuela have increased significantly. According to the most recent study by the consultancy firm, more than 70% of those surveyed stated their intention to “definitely” vote in the presidential elections on July 28, compared to 45-50% last year.

Speaking to Venevision, he highlighted the increase in voting intentions, indicating that the majority of Venezuelans want a change of government. Most people want to vote because they want a change of government.“, he added.

It is estimated that approximately 16,500,000 people are eligible to vote on 28 July, in addition to those registered abroad.

Gil Yepes explained that the number of voters registered includes many people from the diaspora who will not be able to vote.

«There will be, more or less, sixteen and a half million, plus the 70,000 people that the CNE says have the possibility of voting abroad. But we cannot measure abstention based on a figure of total registered voters, because there are many people who are not here in the country.“, the expert explained.

There are approximately 4.5 million who are outside; and of those (…) regarding 8,000 people registered (…), so there will be more or less 16 and a half million, plus the 70,000 people that the CNE says have the possibility of voting outside.“, he added.

The director of Datanalisis believes that abstention has been a big mistake by some opposition leaders. Regarding who would benefit from a large abstention in the elections, he said that it would be Nicolás Maduro.
