Data Breach at Deutsche Bank and Postbank: Impact on Customers and Global Companies

Deutsche Bank and its retail banking subsidiary Postbank suffered a data breach, which has affected an as yet unknown number of customers, although more than 100 companies in more than 40 countries might be affected.

Deutsche Bank reported that the personal data leak occurred at an external bank account exchange service company, German media report.

However, with this data it is not possible to access the bank accounts of those affected, who are customers who used the account change services in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020 to whom Deutsche Bank has informed of what happened in writing to to check whether there have been suspicious bank movements.

The name, surname and IBAN have been stolen, according to “Bonner General-Anzeigers”.

The bank account exchange service company has already identified the cause of the incident and repaired it.

The incident has not affected Deutsche Bank’s own computer systems.
