The most famous zombies will soon be on Galician soil. In recent days at the San Diego Comic-Con International, AMC Networks announced that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has been renewed for a third season, which will be produced and set in Spain. Production on the third season will begin next month, based in Madrid, with extensive filming planned with locations in Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

The announcement came during the series’ Hall H panel at Comic-Con International, attended by stars and executive producers Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, cast member Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, showrunner David Zabel and executive producer and director Greg Nicotero.

The third season of this series derived from the original The Walking Dead follows Carol and Daryl as they continue their journey back home and reunite with their loved ones. As they struggle to find their way, the journey leads them further astray, taking them to faraway lands of harsh and ever-changing conditions as they witness the many effects of the walker apocalypse.

“We are very proud of these series and incredibly grateful for the way fans have embraced this new chapter in the Marvel universe.” The Walking Dead“said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks.

«Sending Daryl, and later Carol, to France was a very inspired and visually striking decision for this franchise, a chance to do something truly different. We look forward to continuing the journeys of this iconic duo with a third season produced and set in Spain, another beautiful country with a dedicated fan base. The Walking Dead very passionate,” she added.

Actor Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, said: “I couldn’t be more excited to announce a third season and to be working side-by-side with the brilliant Melissa McBride. The storyline for Season 2 is one of my favorite narratives on this show. Watching Melissa shine alongside a great cast and crew has been one of my fondest memories of playing this character. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it. We’re looking forward to continuing to develop the story.”

Fellow actress Melissa McBride added: “I really appreciate the new challenges that Daryl and Carol are facing, who are far from everything they know… and what it means to them and what it brings to them, both together and apart. There is still a lot to discover in France for the second season, as well as an impressive finale.” “And now Spain! I am convinced that David Zabel’s narrative is taking full advantage of all the beauty and uniqueness of Spain. We start shooting in a few weeks… how exciting!” she said.

“France turned the story of Daryl and Carol into an epic poem. What awaits us in Spain may even surpass it and we are very happy to continue offering the audience more stories of this fantastic duo, with new intriguing characters, in a still unknown, beautiful and terrifying corner of this world in ruins,” added Scott M. Gimple, CEO of the universe of The Walking Dead.
