Darwin Núñez and other Uruguayan national team players come to blows with Colombian fans

A fight broke out following the Uruguay-Colombia in the stands of the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, following the coffee growers’ 1-0 victory on Wednesday that gave them a pass to the final of the Copa America 2024.
The motives behind the brawl involving several Uruguayan players and leading to the arrest of several Colombian fans are unknown, according to DirecTV.
Jose Maria Gimenezthe Uruguayan central defender, gave his version of events on the microphone of that media and accused a section of the Colombian fans of launching an avalanche once morest his families.
“This is a disaster. Our family is in danger. We had to go into the stands to get our loved ones out, with tiny newborn babies,” said the Atlético de Madrid player.
When the referee blew the final whistle, there was a scuffle between players from both teams in the centre circle, which quickly spread to the stands between fans from both countries.
The most surprising thing happened when several players, led by Núñez, jumped into the stands to get involved in the fight between the fans while objects and liquids rained down on them.
Nunez, fists raised in a fighting stance, was punched in the face by one of the fans.
The brawl lasted several minutes while police efforts were in vain to separate those involved.
“There was not a single policemanThey fell following half an hour (…) I hope that those who are organizing this are a little more careful with the families,” he said angrily.
“Every game is happening. Our families are suffering because of some people who take a few drinks that they don’t know how to take,” he added.
