Darvish posts 13th win; Padres defeat Diamondbacks

Yu Darvish pitched six solid innings to reach 13 wins, Jurickson Profar hit a two-run homer and the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-3 Wednesday night in a game that included three home runs a team.

The Padres began the day practically tied in the fight for the second wild card spot in the National League with the Philadelphia Phillies, who defeated Miami. San Diego took a four-game lead over Milwaukee that fell to Colorado and walked away from the third and final ticket.

Daulton Varsho hit two homers for Arizona, for his 24th on the season.

Darvish (13-7) gave up all three of the Diamondbacks’ home runs. He pitched six innings, in which he allowed five hits.

Closer John Hader earned his 31st save (second with the Padres), by resolving the ninth inning without accepting a score

The loss went to starter Tommy Henry (3-4), who allowed five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 4-0, Geraldo Perdomo 1-0. Puerto Rican Emanuel Rivera 4-0.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Juan Soto 1-0, Manny Machado 4-0. The Venezuelan José Azocar 4-0.
