Darts pioneer Momo Zhou dies aged 31

The darts scene mourns the loss of one of its pioneers. Momo Zhou passed away on January 25 at the age of 31. Her sponsor Target announced this on Thursday. Nothing is known about the circumstances so far.

The Chinese took part in the World Cup of Darts of the PDC in 2018 as the first representative of her country and as the second woman ever. (NEWS: Everything you need to know about darts)

There she lost together with her teammate Xiao Chen Zong the Swiss Andy Bless and Alex Fehlmann. Apart from Zhou, only the Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova started as a lady at the World Team Championship.

Since then, the 31-year-old has not drawn attention to herself on the big darts stages, only taking part on the PDC’s Asian Tour.

There she caused a sensation last summer with a curious “perfect leg” when she threw a ten-darter after a bouncer.

Zhou was not able to fulfill her dream of the individual world championship.

Some darts stars were dismayed at the early death of the Chinese pioneer. Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena, for example, expressed his condolences to Zhou’s family. Paul Nicholson and women’s legend Deta Hedman also spoke on Twitter, among others. The PDC also honored Zhou with a tweet.
