The dead bodies were found in a decomposed state. Hundreds of bodies were transferred to morgues in the neighboring city of Tobruk. The bodies of 84 Egyptians who died in the flood were sent to their own country.
Ten thousand people are yet to be found. More than seven thousand people are being treated with injuries. More than 40,000 people were left homeless in the disaster. Only a few treatment facilities might be brought to the coastal towns. The floods started in Libya following Hurricane Daniel. Durna city was completely submerged following two dams burst. The city was under seven meters of water. Roads were completely washed away making rescue operations difficult. Only two mountain roads leading to the city are usable. Efforts are also underway to clear the blockage on the remaining roads using bulldozers.
Neighboring countries like Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey and UAE have sent rescue forces. The US said it was sending emergency financial aid. There is heavy rain in other parts of Libya. 100 deaths have been reported in various places.
