With Darius Lewis, the Mercenaries have managed to sign another top-class commitment for the 2023 ErimaGFL season.
„Darius already has a lot of European experience and is my absolute dream player for the defensive backfield” Marburg’s defense coordinator Jimmy Yock is very satisfied with this commitment. “He has a high Football IQ and is a very smart player who knows exactly what he’s doing on the field. We are already in close coordination and I am very impressed with how meticulously he is already preparing.”
Lewis attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, Fullerton College and Northern Arizona University. He then came to Germany for the first time in 2017 and played for the Straubing Spiders. Numerous stations in Europe followed: the Budapest Wolves, Koc Rams, Albershausen Crusaders, Carlstad Crusaders and Helsinki Wolverines. He also made a brief guest appearance with the Istanbul Rams, which has meanwhile been withdrawn from the European League of Football. In 2021, Lewis was selected for Team USA, which played once morest the European All Stars in Berlin.
With the Crusaders he won the Swedish championship in 2021 together with quarterback Danny Farley, who was also committed by the Mercenaries. Yock adds: “Our head coach Augie Stevens and I had been in contact with Darius for a long time, and signing his championship colleague Danny Farley finally convinced him to come to Marburg as well.”
And Lewis’ goal for the season will also please the Marburg fans: “I always want to show my best game and give the fans a reason to see our games in the stadium.”
