Dario Fo and Lorca for central and children’s stage, grant from YPPO for space rental

The new productions of DIPETHE Patras, concerning the main stage and the children’s stage, the operation of the Drama School and the Theater Workshop as well as the hosting of the performances given the absence of “Apollo” were the topics that dominated today’s meeting of the Board of the Theater .

Specifically regarding the Children’s Stage, the project will be presented “Where to run Christobita, you won’t get Rosita”. It is an adaptation by Artistic Director Yannis Kalatzopoulos of Federico García Lorca’s work “The Beans of Katsipora”, a work that the poet originally wrote for the puppet theater but was one of his greatest successes. The play in this adaptation for children was performed with great success by the “Children’s Curtain” in Athens (1996), by the “SOFOULI” theater in Thessaloniki (2007) and by the DIPETHE of Ioannina (2008).

Little Rosita, sensitive, tender but also incompatible with evil and injustice, loves Kokolikos – a young singer who roams free like the wind from place to place and sings with his guitar the beauty of life and the pains of people. But her father wants to forcefully marry her to the rich, cruel and heartless Cristobita, the old Policeman of the area, who is the fear and terror of all honest people. What will happen in the end? The playful Mosquito, the stubborn Kurito, the righteous Cloud Scarecrow, the scary Shrew and above all the demonic and resourceful Figaro, all together will reveal the terrible secret of the evil Christobita and mobilize the audience of the show against him. The tyrant (who was not a real Man but a “Bubble” based on people’s ignorance and fear) will burst from his evil before our eyes, so that Humanity and Love will triumph.

The arrangement and direction will be by Yiannis Kalatzopoulos, the sets and costumes by Yiannis Metzikofs, the music by Dimitris Lekkas (orchestration and teaching: Filippos Peristeris) and the choreography by Katerina Andriopoulou.

On the Main Stage we will see the well-known work of Dario Fo: “I’m not paying, I’m not paying!”. The most famous and widely performed work of the Nobel Prize-winning Italian writer, based on real events that happened in Milan in the 70s. The work will be presented for the first time in Patras. The translation is by Yiannis Kalatzopoulos, the direction is by Thanasis Theologi, while the sets and costumes are by Katerina Papageorgiou. It is noted that although initially in the performance that was presented with Roberto Benini, there were five roles with him holding two of them, in the Patras performance we will have six roles.

After the sudden and repeated price hikes of consumer goods, a group of women take a shower in the supermarket of a working-class district and buy milk, spaghetti and detergents at the old prices. The police surround the building complex of workers’ apartment buildings and a hilarious tangle of lies, misunderstandings, reversals and outrageous farcical situations begins to unfold: Women are “gastrod” and de-gastrod in the blink of an eye, policemen buy in favor of the Revolution, workers take it upon themselves to defend the legal order, heroin trucks collide, undertakers carry stolen goods in coffins, and finally… Agia Eulalia performs her miracle so we can see a Carabinieri Election coming out of a closet in advanced pregnancy!

The distribution of the roles will be announced in the future, as the completion of the second day of the audition, which will take place on September 4, is also expected. As pelop.gr had written, about 100 actors from both Patras and Athens have declared their participation in the two hearings, while the participation of graduates of the Drama School is also very large.

It is noted that for both performances, the new artistic director of DIPETHE Patras Yiannis Kalatzopoulos will not be paid extra for his participation, while we will have the opportunity to see him on stage as well, as he will participate as an actor in the children’s production.

DRAMA SCHOOL, THEATER WORKSHOP AND THE HOUSING OF PERFORMANCES FOR THE NEW YEAR

Among the topics discussed during the Board meeting were operation of the Drama School and the Theater Workshop of DIPETHE Patras.

As noted during the meeting, although finances are quite difficult at this particular time, it is in everyone’s interest to continue the high provision of services and training of both structures.

One of the issues raised by the board member Marianna Stamatiadouit was also that of the accommodation of the performances. As the board president Lydia Karathanasopoulou informed her, they have already contacted the Achaean deputy minister of culture Jason Fotila who informed them that a grant will be given to DIPETHE as the work on Apollo is not expected to start immediately, so that they can proceed to rental of theater spaces for the presentation of the performances. At this point Mrs. Stamatiadou repeated her opinion that a suitable place is “Glamor“, which had previously been used for theatrical performances. However, as Mrs. Karathanasopoulou noted, the area has serious deficiencies and needs a lot of money to restore it, with Mrs. Stamatiadou bringing back the issue of guarding municipal spaces
