Darien Jungle: 18 bodies of Venezuelans were found in a mass grave

The Panamanian security forces called to consider passing through that area, since they consider it “very dangerous.”

A total of 18 bodies of Venezuelan migrants were found in a mass grave in the Darién area, reported the National Border Service of Panama.

The discovery occurred in the heart of the jungle and the authorities handle the hypothesis that they were abandoned by the “coyotes”, individuals in charge of serving as guides in that area in exchange for money.

The chief commissioner of Senafront, Oriel Ortega, confirmed that the bodies belonged to Venezuelan citizens and noted that there was possibly a robbery and a rape before the criminals committed the murder.

Authorities have called to consider this route as “very dangerous”, since they have registered an increase in the number of incidents towards people who try to cross said pass.

The coordinator of the Migrant Service of Fe y Alegría, Elías Cornejo, clarified that “it has been considered” as one of the “most dangerous places in South America.”
