Business» “We differentiate between several types of entrepreneurs, those who start to do mandates as a secondary activity and seeing that it works well, decide to create a business. And those who from the start have to go see investors to devote themselves 100% directly to it, ”explains Emmanuelle Fauchart, holder of the chair of strategic entrepreneurship at the University of Fribourg. For David Pythoud, it is rather the first case. This 21-year-old young man decided to combine his passion for video and his attraction for entrepreneurship last July. It was during his apprenticeship as a commercial employee in a fiduciary that the idea of starting out on his own appeared to him. “I needed to have an impact on people and I went where there was demand,” says David Pythoud.

“What sets you apart is taking action”

He then created PYDproduction, a communication company that brings together promotional videos and digital marketing. But before starting, this young entrepreneur had to overcome some barriers such as the fear of not succeeding and leaving his stability aside. “I think you become an entrepreneur when you take risks and dare to do things. In life, there are thousands of people who have the same ideas as you and what sets you apart from these people is just taking action,” he adds.

The specialisation

After taking the plunge, David quickly had to get to grips with specific terms related to the business through the development of a business plan. Professor Emmanuelle Fauchart points out: “Although a business plan is basically a tool for approaching investors, it can have other functions. It forces the entrepreneur to lay everything out and focus on the most important elements.” A difficult task for David Pythoud who has more difficulty making choices. He began by specializing in events before completing his offer by adding real estate communication. “The problem with events is that it’s too short-lived and it leaves me with a lot of downtime. So I decided to enlarge my specialization thanks to real estate which is taking up more and more space in my schedule”, underlines the young man.

As for the future, in the coming months, David Pythoud will hire his first employee and above all register his company as a limited liability company (SARL). “This step gives status, structure and above all legitimacy to a company. Firstly, people will be able to trust this entity, but it is also an indicator that the company is working well so far,” explains Professor Emmanuelle Fauchart.
