Dar Al Iftaa: It is permissible to pay zakat al-fitr from the first day of Ramadan until before the Eid prayer

The Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa confirmed that it is legally permissible to pay zakat al-fitr from the first day of the month of Ramadan, and even before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, pointing out that the value of zakat al-fitr for this year 1443 AH is 15 pounds as a minimum for each individual, with the desirability of increasing this amount for those who want.

The value of zakat al-fitr

Dr. Shawqi Allam, Mufti of the Republic, Head of the General Secretariat for Fatwas and Roles in the World, set the value of Zakat al-Fitr for this year 1443 AH at 15 pounds as a minimum for each individual, noting that the Egyptian Dar al-Iftaa took the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifa in the permissibility of giving out zakat al-Fitr in cash. instead of pills; To make it easier for the poor to meet their needs and demands, and the fatwa is stable on that, and that the value of zakat al-Fitr is equivalent to (2.5) kilograms of wheat for each individual, given that it is the majority of the sustenance of the people of Egypt.

Ruling on zakat al-fitr

Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory for every Muslim. The great and the small, the male and the female, the free and the slave; According to the hadith of Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with them both, he said: “The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, imposed zakat al-Fitr in Ramadan, one saa’ of dates, or one saa of barley, on the slave and free, male and female, young and old, among Muslims, and he commanded it to be given before the people went out to pray. “.

Those who give zakat al-Fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr is given to poor Muslims in the country of its origin, according to what was narrated by Abu Dawud on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with him, who said: (The Messenger of God, peace be upon him, imposed zakat al-Fitr from Ramadan as food for the poor). Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, said: “One of his gifts, peace be upon him, was to allocate this charity to the poor, and he did not divide it into the eight categories, one handful, nor did he command that, nor did any of his companions or following them. Except for the needy in particular, and this saying is more likely than the saying that it must be divided among the eight categories.
