Danish-Swedish cooperation against gang violence intensifies – will put pressure on Tiktok

Sweden’s Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer traveled across the border on Wednesday to meet his Danish colleague Peter Hummelgaard.

To overcome gang violence, they pool resources. One of the links in the strategy the justice ministers came up with during the meeting is to put pressure on, among other things, Tiktok.

– On Tiktok you can see these young suspects appear after they have been out and committed a crime. We want to do everything we can to fight hard against the digital platforms. They must take greater responsibility for misuse of their services, says Hummelgaard.

Menus with criminal acts

Other platforms that are called to a meeting with the two countries’ governments are Telegram, Snapchat, Meta and Google. Hummelgaard says that on Telegram they see examples of menus where you can order criminal acts.

The Swedish Minister of Justice hopes that joint Nordic pressure can increase the pressure on the platforms. Strömmer says that they record how the criminal gangs change their patterns of action.

– We have seen only in the last few months how they advance and advertise their services quite openly, says Strömmer.

– Very angry

Hummelgaard does not hide his feelings about what is happening in Denmark.

– I am still very angry. It is difficult to feel so many other emotions when we see that children and young people are recruited to commit the most serious offences.

He says the Danes and Swedes are now standing together against gang violence.

– Unfortunately, the perpetrators are hiding in countries where we have difficulties in getting them extradited. That is why we have decided to strengthen cooperation with these countries, says Hummelgaard.
