Lamborghini has signed a contract with Daniil Kvyat – the former Russian Formula 1 driver will become the company’s factory driver in the most prestigious LMDh endurance racing class.
Kvyat will be involved in the testing and development of the Lamborghini Ligier chassis prototype ahead of the racing program with the official Iron Lynx team next year in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup.
The 28-year-old Russian, who will represent Lamborghini under the Italian flag, is already driving for Iron Lynx partner Prema in the WEC LMP2 class.
He intends to combine this role with “extensive” work on an unnamed Lamborghini LMDh, which is expected to hit the road for the first time in early summer.
Kvyat spent a total of six seasons in Formula 1 driving for Red Bull Racing and its subsidiary Scuderia AlphaTauri. His last Grand Prix took place in 2020, following which Alpine hired him as a reserve driver for one year.
Daniil Kvyat: “I am very happy to join Lamborghini Squadra Corse, it is a great honor for me.
Lamborghini is a very famous Italian brand with a long history in the automotive world, and for me, who grew up in Italy, this is an additional reason to be proud.
We hope to achieve this goal together, I am grateful for the trust and look forward to getting started.”
