Danielle Duron, president of France Alzheimer in Creuse, gives an update on the disease

Two events to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease will take place in Creuse on Tuesday 20 and Saturday 24 September. Danielle Duron, president of France Alzheimer in the department, takes stock.

Have there been improvements in screening?

The diagnosis is now quite accurate thanks to neurologists. It can be done earlier as well, of course, but on condition that people go for a consultation.

This is one of the problems we encounter because the patients are aware of their difficulties but this often leads them to isolate themselves, through social fear, and when they begin to no longer recognize those around them.

What regarding therapy?

Nothing yet allows to cure or even repel the disease. The only medical aids we have are drugs to calm anxiety.

What works best is activity. You have to work to stimulate your memory but in Creuse, in the countryside, it is complicated to gather and watch over everyone.

Is Creuse care insufficient today?

For 4,000 people suffering from the disease in the department, arms are missing. Day centers only accommodate 7-8 people in five establishments in Creuse and there are only two Specialized Alzheimer’s Teams (ESA).

In Creuse, wishing trees to support people with Alzheimer’s

Even our association needs volunteers. We would like to be able to create branches all over the Creuse to be closer to the sick.

What is the program for these next World Days?

Tuesday, September 20, a film debate will animate the Sénéchal in Guéret with the screening of the film A crazy life at 14 hours. Admission will be free and the president of France Alzheimer Dordogne, psycho-geriatrician, will take care of starting the conversation.

Saturday, September 24, we went on a more festive concept with a solidarity march in Chambon sur Voueize, from 2 p.m. and with three circuits to choose from. A popular ball will close the day around 5:30 p.m.
