Daniel Ricciardo’s Stepping Stone: Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix Races Ignite F1’s Return from Summer Break

Daniel Ricciardo hopes the Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix races will be a stepping stone for F1’s return from the summer break. Ricciardo has stayed out of racing in 2023 following agreeing to part ways with McLaren at the end of last season. Ricciardo, who became Red Bull’s third driver, was scheduled to do tire tests and demonstration runs as a member of the team, and only make a few appearances in the paddock.

However, following an impressive performance in tire testing following the British Grand Prix, Ricciardo was called up to Scuderia AlphaTauri following just ten races. Asked how much the two races before the holidays were worth, he said: “When I got the call, in my head I was like ‘Oh, I get it’. I thought maybe I’d have to wait until the summer break. told Speedcafe. “But I’m really happy to have been able to do these two races before the break because it definitely gives me a chance to think, build a foundation and ask the team some questions.” Hungary Prior to the GP, Ricciardo had never driven a Scuderia AlphaTauri AT04 and had limited time on the 2023-spec car. However, he had a promising performance in the Red Bull simulator and proved himself to Red Bull bosses at Silverstone. At the Hungarian Grand Prix, he outqualified his teammate Yuki Tsunoda in qualifying and in the race. Yuki Tsunoda is considered by many of his peers to have one of the best starts to the year (even if the results don’t show it). Things were a little tougher at the Belgian Grand Prix, with Ricciardo suffering tire degradation in the F1 sprint and running last in the race due to lack of grip. Ricardo is not in a good mood. He knows he will need an adjustment period to learn the teams, cars and the latest spec Pirelli tires that have changed since the 2022 race. That’s why the seat time to take a break was important. “I feel he will be much better prepared going into Zandvoort than when Zandvoort was his first race,” said Ricciardo. “I think in a way it’s a bit of a stepping stone to the second half of the season,” he said. “In my case, I definitely know where my fitness is, so now I’m working during the summer break and the off-season. I can be at the gym while everyone else is having a pina colada.”
