RB driver Daniel Ricciardo believes his team needs to improve its technical performance ahead of the Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring Circuit, July 19-21.
He considered his performance to be less than good in the last race at the Silverstone Circuit, England, last weekend, by only finishing in 13th position and not contributing any points for the team.
“(It’s a shame) because a week ago (at the Austrian GP) we had a good race and scored points. I think we lost a bit in the latest (technical) improvement battle compared to some of our competitors in the midfield,” Ricciardo said on the Formula 1 website, Thursday (11/7).
The Australian driver believes the characteristics of the Hungarian circuit suit the VCARB 01 car.
“Budapest is a completely different circuit. Let’s see how we perform. But obviously we have to work on some of the weaknesses and where I’m lacking in terms of pace,” said Ricciardo.
Regarding the British GP, the 35-year-old driver considered his performance not optimal, especially in terms of acceleration. Ricciardo admitted that he lost momentum due to the changing weather conditions at Silverstone.

“It was a race with mixed conditions. Of course we were excited to take some chances, but the reality is, we were not competitive through all of those conditions,” he said.
Teammate Yuki Tsunoda is looking forward to the next race in Budapest, hoping the circuit’s characteristics will suit his car better.
“Hopefully (our performance) will be better in the next race. Hungary has a mix of high and low speed tracks, hopefully we can use our strengths to compete once more for the top 10,” Tsunoda said. (Ant/Z-1)
