(Quebec) The conductor of the vaccination campaign once morest COVID-19, Daniel Paré, will soon be appointed Deputy Minister of Health, has learned The Press.
Updated June 21
He will succeed Dominique Savoie, who will become the great patroness of civil servants as secretary general of the government, as The Press revealed on Tuesday. She will be the first woman to hold this position.
Daniel Paré began his career as a respiratory therapist in the late 1980s and then moved into management.
In 2012, the Charest government appointed him CEO of the Chaudière-Appalaches Health and Social Services Agency. Three years later, the Couillard government kept him in charge of the network in the region, while the Barrette reform transformed the agencies into integrated health and social services centers (CISSS).
The Legault government called him as reinforcements in Quebec in December 2020 to lead the vaccination campaign once morest COVID-19. His work has earned him much praise from the government, which in March 2022 appointed him Associate Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
Daniel Paré will now find himself at the top of the Department’s organization chart at the very moment when profound changes in governance are approaching.
Under Minister Christian Dubé’s reform, the Ministry will now focus on defining guidelines, budget planning and performance measurement. All the coordination of system operations will be under the responsibility of a new Crown corporation, Santé Québec, the sole employer of all health care workers. Bill 15, which aims to implement these changes, is before the National Assembly. The minister is looking for “top guns” from the private sector to lead Santé Québec.
Entrusting an agency with the coordination of health system operations was a recommendation by Dominique Savoie in a report submitted to Minister Dubé a year ago.
