Daniel Côté shared his game plan for the next four years if he is elected mayor of Gaspé for a second term. The outgoing mayor detailed his plan on four axes.
The first axis on which Daniel Côté wishes to focus is economic development as well as issues related to transportation.
Among other things, Daniel Côté wants to set up a massive campaign to attract workers and families to settle in Gaspé. At the same time, he will continue, among other things, the steps for the development of housing in Gaspé.
“I want the example of attracting 300 new workers to LM, I want us to have 300 new workers in other companies here. Business owners and others tell me […] These small businesses, I want to regroup them, regroup the efforts. I want us to get money from government programs as well. I want the City, my municipal council to arrive and say we put money in there because that’s what will ensure that we will develop, ”explains Daniel Côté.
Issues related to transportation will also be at the center of the concerns of the outgoing mayor who wishes to continue the process of setting up a maritime crossing linking Rivière-au-Renard, Anticosti Island and the North Shore.
Daniel Côté also wants to settle the issue of the railway with the investments promised by the government by ensuring that the 100 million is well invested and that the freight train goes to Gaspé in 2020 as well as the passenger train therefollowing the most quickly as possible.
Of course, the Mayor of Gaspé will continue the steps taken to develop airport infrastructure and improve this service.
“In terms of transportation, plane tickets, I will not let go until there is a competitor who will land in Gaspé and in the regions of Quebec to create competition and lower the price of tickets so that Mr. and Mrs. Everybody can fly too,” explains Daniel Côté.
The three other axes on which the outgoing mayor wishes to work are the following:
– Continue investing in improving the quality of life;
– Update and modernize the City of Gaspé in the ways of doing things in a municipality;
– Defend and represent Gaspé on the regional and national stages by carrying a strong and credible voice.
There is a second candidate in Gaspé. Jean Lapointe, recognized for having campaigned for hemodialysis treatments in Gaspésie, wants the population to have a choice. He wants there to be a political debate in Gaspé and that citizens are more interested in politics. He also wants elected officials to get closer to the people.
“Those who will be elected on November 5, only if they are able to go once a year in each district. Not having a town meeting, but going to consult the people in the sectors to ask them what can we do for you? »
Advance voting will take place on October 29 and on election day, November 5.
