Puerto Rico Celebrates New Mr. World Dani Mejía Romero
A hero’s welcome awaited Dani Mejía Romero as the newly crowned Mr. World touched down at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport last week. The charismatic Puerto Rican, who secured the coveted title last November in the international competition, was met with thunderous applause, joyous cheers, and a festive atmosphere that radiated pure pride. Miss World Puerto Rico 2024 Valerie Pérez, members of her team, a vibrant batucada band, and a throng of jubilant fans created an unforgettable homecoming for their champion.
Mejía, still basking in the glow of his victory, shared with the press the surreal experience of hearing his name announced as Mr. World. “Well, I really lost consciousness for a minute,” he admitted, a wide smile spreading across his face. “I lost consciousness, I couldn’t believe I was living that moment. It was a moment that has marked me for the rest of my life. I remember they started hugging me and throwing me in the air and I was so instructed and focused on marching because that’s how they had taught us, that I thought I wouldn’t be able to march because they kept throwing me in the air. “I completely enjoyed it,” he recalled with infectious enthusiasm.

Mejía’s journey to the Mr. World crown was marked by both talent and determination. He made history by becoming the first Puerto Rican delegate to conquer both the sports and talent competitions during the pageant. This double victory propelled him into the limelight and solidified his status as a formidable contender.

Mejía confidently navigated through multiple rounds, securing his place among the top 20 finalists alongside representatives from Angola, Argentina, Belgium, the Czech Republic, India, Italy, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Myanmar, Peru, the Philippines, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, the United States, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Further impressing the judges, he advanced to the top 10 alongside Angola, the Czech Republic, India, Kenya, Spain, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

**Dani:** Thank you so much! It’s still a bit surreal to be called “Mr. World”!
**Host:** Can you tell us a little bit about the moment you heard your name announced?
**Dani:** Well, I really lost consciousness for a minute, (laughs) I couldn’t believe it. It was a moment that has marked me for the rest of my life. Everyone started hugging me and throwing me in the air – I was so focused on marching, as we were trained, that I thought I wouldn’t even be able to do that properly! But honestly, I completely enjoyed it.
**Host:** I bet! We saw pictures of your homecoming in Puerto Rico, it looked incredible!
**Dani:** Yes, it was amazing! The welcome I received was truly overwhelming. Miss World Puerto Rico, Valerie Perez, and her team, a batucada band, and so many fans were there. It felt like the entire island was celebrating, and that feeling is something I will never forget.
**Host:** You made history by becoming the first Puerto Rican to win Mr. World. What does that mean to you?
**Dani:** It’s a huge honor. I hope this inspires young people in Puerto Rico to follow their dreams, no matter how big they seem. This title belongs to all of Puerto Rico.
