In tears
Carvajal’s leg hit Pino’s thigh with full force in the pendulum motion, whereupon his knee bent “the wrong way”.
He screamed out his pain and burst into tears as he was carried off the field on a stretcher.
After the match, which ended 2–0, coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Carvajal had suffered a knee injury.
– We have to wait for the medical examination. But yes, it’s a serious knee injury and Dani is very sad right now, says Ancelotti.
Well into the Saturday morning, the Spanish big club then came with an announcement about the 32-year-old’s status: he is forced to undergo surgery.
