A Venezuelan migrant who was traveling in search of the “American dream” decided to return to his country following his legs were amputated by a Beast train, which is part of a network in Mexico and is used by thousands of foreigners to reach areas near the border with the United States, despite the multiple dangers.

“(The train) stopped to pick us up, but when I got on it was raining and there was a lot of slippery ground. The train was starting and I fell,” the young Venezuelan, identified as Carlos Eduardo Sarmiento, told the Univision news network.

The fall occurred in Aguascalientes and, with the braids of his shoes, he was able to make a tourniquet on his legs to avoid bleeding to death on the spot.

A report from Imagen Noticias indicated that a person passing by the place heard the screams of the 26-year-old young man and announced the situation to the emergency services. Municipal police arrived at the site and reinforced the knots. Thus, they were able to save his life and transfer him to the Romos General Hospital.

“I wouldn’t try it once more”

José Rafael Rivero, Carlos’ cousin, assured Univision that the people who were with the migrant abandoned him and practically left him to die.
