On January 26, two 15-year-old teenagers attending a secondary school in Deinze tried to reproduce a challenge where they had to strangle each other until one told the other to stop. Things took a dramatic turn.
”The young person who was being strangled might not say ‘stop’ in time and lost consciousness. The other student was surprised and let go of his classmate, who fell to the ground. The back of his head hit the ground. He had to be transported to hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit for several days,” Deinze police told our colleagues at HLN. An internal investigation was opened within the school itself.

The prosecution indicates that witnesses and school officials explained that this challenge occurred between two classmates. “The investigation shows that the game would not have taken place following any TikTok challenge. In fact, nothing was filmed by the young people involved,” according to the prosecution.
The teenager’s father filed a complaint with the police, who warn once morest the excesses of this type of challenge which we see a lot on social networks, particularly on Tiktok. “Even if they don’t shoot a video, young people can still be inspired by what they see on social media. This can encourage young people to commit dangerous acts.” Fortunately, the teenager has since been released from the hospital.
